Insecurity is just below the surface of any interaction we have throughout the day. I may be, nay, I am, overly sensitive and too aware for my own good. But, the fact we have to work hard to feel comfortable in our own skin suggests something much deeper going on.
Maybe we’re not supposed to be looking for moments of bliss and happiness to be the norm? In pursuing spiritual ideals we tend to lean towards one end of the spectrum or the other. Forgetting that balance actually comes from the middle.
My rebellious nature tends to pull me towards the extreme spectrum. A kind of subtle extremism, born out of stubbornness and a thirsting quest to drink from every kind of spring.
We love looking outside the walls of our flesh to find objects that define us. We are what we own. What we own consumes us.
Not all objects are bad. I’m not advocating we all strip our clothes and walk naked into the forest, cultivating a lifestyle off the land. Although that does sound enticing.
Behind my thoughts lies a sea of pure freedom. Beyond my emotions lies a land that’s wild and free. This is the land I wish to live.
Sometimes I remember the combination it takes to open all the locks. Other times it comes more naturally, in moments of transcendence. These are the best. Effortless freedom. When reality cracks at the foundation to reveal something deeper and more pure.
The moonlight sonata of chaos also brings the subtle tones of peace and beauty. This ride is the ride we all hope for. To walk towards something resembling freedom.
I opened up an old spiraled notebook. The pages were bent, the metal spine could barely hold the pages. The lines were drooping from a minor water spill.
I had to lick the pen. The ink was so dry. The pen was cracked. My hands were covered in ink.
I loved every second of it.
Being deliberate about what you consume means shutting out a lot of incoming elements.
Curating your Facebook feed isn’t enough to become mindful about what you’re letting into your life. Your TV is evil. Drama is an addiction.
Only the truth will set you free.
